Everyone who smiled, when I needed one
Every ear that listened to me without judgement
Every mouth that uttered a kind word to me
Every hand that supported me when I faltered
Every leg that ran even one step with me
Every hearty laugh or giggle I shared with
Is a friend.
Some I know for long, from the steps of the school
With some it was as long as the next bus stop.
Some are related to me by birth
Some are carried over for the good deeds
From my previous birth.
I do not even know many by name or face
A friend’s kindness does not need a shape.
